What is the stuff that drives us all forward. Maybe I ponder this more as an artist and a person working within the arts. I watch as artists and musicians follow their passions... Bring new, beautiful and exciting creations to a world that. Without these creators, innovative and addicted souls, a world that would be (in my opinion) a dreary & dreadful place. My observations as a visual artist working with musicians is this: we are all addicts. Waiting for our next fix. Striving, with absolute fear and relentlessness toward an observers perception of our works. We put ourselves out there emotionally, for money, acceptance, ridicule, perceived fame, monotary compensation. As artists we wait for the next fix... Long for it, seek it, crave it. The next painting, sculpture, cd, show... Pick your poison. This is, from what I see... One of the only addictions that pushes society forward. We are the addicts that speak to future generations of the world we long to change, of our struggles and triumphs... Of our love and hate.
Just a thought at 2:30 am.
